If a women underwent a D&C procedure, is there a possibility that it can affect her fertility?

Patricia - May 27th, 2010 10:48 PM

Some way or another it may have slight effect on the normal conception. it will also depend on how the procedure was performed because there those women who are very sensitive or may have problems already on conceiving even before the procedure was done.

is d&c painful? how long will the procedure take?

Patricia - May 28th, 2010 10:05 PM

In my case, the d&c took 10 mins and it the pain was tolerable. I just had some feeling of discomfort a few hours after the procedure.

in what cases is d&c performed?

Patricia - May 28th, 2010 11:19 PM

For cases when you need to clean up the uterus from residues of lining. This is usually done after a first trimester miscarriage.

I've had minor mc so do you think I also need to undergo d&c?

Patricia - May 29th, 2010 10:34 PM

In your case prettylucy, I don't think you needed it because minor mc that are usually cleaned up by menstrual flow is just enough.

Thanks Patricia. Yes, I just had it out like a heavy menstrual flow. It is very painful at times.

should not be a problem or a factor. i know some women who have no problems after the procedure.

I don't think it is the D&C procedure that cause the infertility if a woman effects it fertility after the procedure because the method is just to scrap and clean the uterus from unwanted residues.
