How can Heparin help with female fertiltiy?

marcopolo - October 31st, 2010 1:37 AM

heparin is a blood thinner and is used in fertility therapy. this kind of medicine is used with low dose aspirin to increase chances of getting pregnant.

why? what's wrong with a "thick" blood?

kissybusymissy - October 31st, 2010 3:59 PM

women with clotting problems are sometimes prescribed heparin to help them carry a baby. Heparin is given to women who have had multiple miscarriages or still births.

Heparin is anticoagulant, meaning it prevents coagulation. Therefore when used, it prevents blood clotting.

If you have too thick blood you could be susceptible to stroke and blood clots.

I think clotting issues also have to do with miscarriage, right?
