"In this procedure, a small amount of concentrated sperm, first "washed" to remove most of the seminal plasma that surrounds it, is placed in the uterus through a thin plastic catheter that is passed through the vagina and cervix. Usually painless, the IUI procedure takes only a few minutes to accomplish.

IUI is almost always used in combination with a fertility drug - clomiphene or Pergonal - to stimulate ovulation followed by an HCG injection to trigger the release of an egg. The timing of the IUI is determined with the help of vaginal ultrasound, previous cycle lengths, BBT temperature graphs, or urinary LH correlation kits."

I found this on the internet. Does anybody else have any input regarding this procedure as treatment for female infertility?

It seems complicated yet easy at the same time. I guess the only difference between this one and IVF is that sperm is introduced inside the uterus instead of in a petri dish.

However, I am concerned about the cost. Is this cheaper or more expensive than IVF?

I thought this was one of the steps followed during IVF? Can somebody explain or give more details?

Nope, its not a step since the sperm is introduced directly as opposed to outside the uterus and then the embryo is inserted to the uterus.

I think these is a kind of expensive procedure,so only those who have money can afford this kind of procedure, But we must wait tirelessly if when is God would certainly grant us to conceive.

The intrauterine insemination if properly performed, should seemed like to a pap smear for the woman. The procedure should not cause to have discomfort.

Insemination combined with ovarian stimulation with injectable gonadotropins which provides highest pregnancy rates.

this is cheaper then IVF. In my state it costs arond $1000 compared to IVF which costs between $8000-12000 per cycle!

This is also known as Artificial Insemenation right? i agree with Jennygirl that it is more affordable. I think this should be considered before IVF treatments.
