What is this and what is treatment?

SuperMom - October 10th, 2010 1:39 AM

Luteinized unruptured follicle (LUF) syndrome is defined as a failure of ovulation in which, despite the absence of follicular rupture and release of the oocyte, the unruptured follicle undergoes luteinization under the action of LH.

I got this from the Oxford Journal. This is one of the reasons for unexplained fertility. It is treated by a combination of hMG and hCG treatments.

so it is some sort of ovulation failure. Since it contributes to unexplained infertility then I guess the causes are unexplained or unknown too?

Can this sort of disease be treated with drugs like clomid which induce ovulation?

"It is treated by a combination of hMG and hCG treatments."

Does this mean that women with LUF are usually in their late 30's or early 40's because HCG treatment is for women with low FSH levels and decreased egg quality.

ovulation disorders are some of the most common factors that affect female fertility. Some of these can be treated with hormones easily.

just a heads up: even though you menstruate regularly does not mean that you are ovulating. Menstruation and ovulation are two separate processes.

to ANNE:

I agree. Although they are related and affect each other. Menstruation can occur without ovulation.
