What is Oligomenorrhea? Sounds dangerous!

Fhina - October 9th, 2010 10:20 AM

It is the term used to describe the condition of having an infrequent menstrual period.

This is infrequent menstruation. Sometimes women menstruate but they are very light and it does not regularly. This is usually found in women with polycsytic ovarian syndrome or PCOS.

I used to have light periods before but was not diagnosed with this. I think it runs in the family or something because my mother, sister and I only menstruate for 3 days.

Oligomenorrhea is term used to describe complications or menstrual cycles which a woman who has it experience light or frequent menstruation.

scales - October 15th, 2010 3:10 AM

Maybe it is hormonal related. So women with light periods can have hormone replacement therapy?

ImABabyMama - October 17th, 2010 3:30 AM

I agree with scales. Forms of ovulation disorder can be treated with hormones. Hormones control ovulation so if this part can be fixed, then perhaps other problems can be avoided.

Oligomenorrhea is a medical term for frequent or light menstrual periods in women of child bearing age.

Fred_Flintstone - October 24th, 2010 2:40 AM

this sounds so weird. I dunno what a heavy or light period looks like but I do know that a regular menstrual cycle will make it easier to predict when a woman is ovulating.
