hey ladies,

Just want to warn women that some fertility medication might contribute to bone loss. Medicine like Synarel, Antagon and Cetrotide can have this side effect. Bone loss can make our bones brittle and make women susceptible to osteoporosis.

Yep. It's a possible side effect but not all experience this.

But bone loss is a big concern when you are planning to get pregnant. Babies get calcium directly from their mothers while they are in utero. If you dont have a good calcium deposit to begin with, your child might have calcium deficiency and you can suffer from osteoporosis later on due to childbirth and these types of medication.

My wife has some tubal blockages and this is not adviseable for her. We initially thought that this could work but when we found her fallopian problems, we had to look for other means like IVF.

Bone loss and osteoporosis is a big deal with women who want to get pregnant. During gestation, the baby gets majority of his calcium supply through the mother.

This is why women who have lots of kids tend to stoop when they get older. This is osteoporosis.

I think few only can experience this if they have already some kind of problem like bone loss..but, it's really not because of the side effects of the treatment.

Possible and probable. Every treatment has a side effect. We all know that our children's calcium needs start when they are conceived. If the mother does not have adequate supply of calcium then her baby will have muscular development problems.

This is why taking supplements during pregnancy is important espeically if you have brittle bones to begin with.

Its one of the risks you have to weigh. perhaps with long term use, it can have extreme side effects but if only just for treatment then it can be stopped once it has taken effect.

Different meds have different side effects.

In clomid you get OHSS and water retention. With HSG you get headaches nausea. It also depends on the woman if she experiences these side effects or not.

Bone loss is a big issue regardless of how many children we have and other infertiliy problems. Women are more prone to men to develop osteoporosis so it should be something to think about when given this sort of medications.
