i read that IVF increases the risk of ectopic pregnancy. can this be avoided? is it dangerous?

I dunno how to avoid it but since more than one embryo is implanted, chances are there might be one that will develop in other places other than the womb. It's a risk that women undergoing IVF have to be wary of.

I guess its something that you have to weigh in. Ectopic pregnancy is a major surgery and can decrease chance of getting pregnant.

If they cut out a portion of the fallopian tube, then you will have a hard time getting pregnant again. with ivf they implant more than one embryo and these can attach themselves to different parts of the womb including the fallopian tubes.

But ectopic pregnancy can also happen if you dont have ivf treatment. i also think that ectopic pregnancy is age related. is this right?

If you're healthy, you should be fine. All treatments have risks even IVF. If you do get ectopic pregnancy, know that it is not the end of the line for you. There are other options.

All treatments have risks. With IVF, there are multiple embryos implanted and some of them might not get implanted in the womb, increasing the risks.

yes, ectopic pregnancy can harm the mother if not treated (if the fetus won't be removed),

kol_meMai - February 6th, 2011 3:16 PM

of course, this is dangerous if not prevented / treated...this is not a joke!

the single most important way to avoid serious consequences is for the ectopic pregnancy to be diagnosed at an early stage ;)
