what kind of testing is this?

SJ23 - October 31st, 2010 3:18 PM

this is a complication during pregnancy which can cause miscarriage. women who have this sometimes have endometriosis too.

Ive never heard of this. So how do they test for embryo toxic factor?

According to my source SharedJourney:

"Embryo toxic factor (ETF) refers to an immune system response by your body to an embryo. ETF is secreted by your white blood cells. If your white blood cells produce too much ETF, your body’s immune system is likely to recognize an embryo as a foreign invader. Since the purpose of your white blood cells is to keep your body healthy, your immune system will attack the embryo, causing a miscarriage. "

So basically the body sees the embryo as an enemy, attacks it causing a miscarriage.

what is that endometriosis by the way?

Alison_Marshall - January 27th, 2011 4:24 PM

I got this from womens-health: "Embryo toxic factor is a cytokine that is secreted by the immune system's white blood cells in response to pregnancy tissue. If excess amounts of ETF are produced by white blood cells during pregnancy, the immune system may recognize the embryo as a foreign substance and may attack the embryo in order to maintain the body's health. This in turn will lead to a miscarriage."

So those who want to get pregnant, better get themselves checked for ETF right away!

so sad hearing on this that basically the body sees the embryo as an enemy, and this is why it leads to miscarriage, and now i know.. doesn't mean that there's no chance in getting pregnant?
