ICSI. What is it and is it the same as artificial insemination?

"This procedure is most commonly used to overcome male infertility problems, although it may also be used where eggs cannot easily be penetrated by sperm, and occasionally as a method of in vitro fertilization, especially that associated with sperm donation"

"ICSI is an in vitro fertilization procedure in which a single sperm is injected directly into an egg."

that's from the wikipedia.

this is more prescise than AI. This procedure is when a single sperm is injected into the egg. some eggs are hard to penetrate and in some cases sperm find it hard to penetrate the egg so this procedure assists the sperm so to speak.

i don't know yet if this has negative effects on our health but ICSI of eggs, & then IVF & embryo transfer to the female is an effective treatment for male infertility & sperm defects.
