how true is it that frequent ivf treatment can lead to breast cancer?

IVF? I've never heard of this but my eye doctor got breast cancer after years of hormone therapy in order to get pregnant. sad to say she is still childless and had a double mastectomy 2 years ago.

I heard about hormone therapy too. It seems that it does carry a risk for breast cancer, though the chances are slim. so sorry about your friend. I guess she must really be having a hard time coping with a mastectomy and infertility at the same time. But we should be thankful that she is still alive and well.

Are you talking about fertility drugs? Can these really cause infertility or is this like a one time fluke with your friend?

No one exactly knows about why breast cancer happens, except for a fact that it really start from our genes. But with regards to the frequent IVF treatment that leads to it, i certainly find it to be with no truth at all.

Breast cancer is usually hereditary. I have heard of IVF linking to ovarian cancer but not breast.

not exactyly...based on the report of the researchers in the journal Human Reproduction:

when they compared the rates of cancer among these larger group of about 24,000 women who delivered a baby following IVF treatment performed between 1982 and 2006 and 1.4 million other women in the general Swedish population who had also given birth during the same time period.

The researchers found that less than 2 percent of women in the IVF group developed one or more cancers after treatment (during an average follow-up of 8 years). Nearly 5 percent of women who did not undergo IVF before giving birth later developed cancer.

probably yes... and even without ivf as what sweet_daisy stated, still lead to breast cancer.
