One of the risks of fertility treatment is ovarian hyperstimulation syndrome or OHSS. When this happens the ovaries are overly stimulated, becoming dangerously large and filled with too much fluid. This fluid, which is released with ovulation, can lead to serious complications.

Wow, we never thought of this. It is good to know that the forum is a wealth of information.

So if the drugs is stopped then the fluids in the ovaries will go away? Or is it treated through surgery?

I think this happens when wrong dosage of certain treatment is given which is less likely to happen when you consult a doctor and received the correct prescription.

It usually occurs as a result of taking gonadotropins-hormonal medications that stimulates the production of eggs in a woman ovaries.

depending on the severity and amount of fluids, it might need to be drained in the hospital...

depending on the severity and amount of fluids, it might need to be drained in the hospital... doctors usually monitor their patients on fertility medication as this is one of the risks... if you take meds and feel bloated then you should definetely see a doctor.

does this lead to ovarian cancer?

Mycha - August 26th, 2010 1:23 PM

the risk of this is the serious complication, but we need to gamble for the longing to conceive. Which is which the right things to do? To be affected with complications or just wait the right time to achieve fertilization.
