Supplements for Male Fertility
Trials, Testing and Procedures
When a couple discovers they are infertile, the doctor will likely begin the process of a very comprehensive infertility examination of both people to determine the cause or causes. It is important for both people to recognize that this will require some commitment and diligence as well as some uncomfortable situations. The doctor, or fertility clinic, will need to know sexual habits, perhaps making recommendations about that aspect of the relationship. Testing and periods of trial and error can go on for months at a time. It requires patience and forbearance. The evaluation is expensive and may involve some uncomfortable procedures. Some medical plans do not reimburse the costs of the evaluations and there is no guarantee that even after all the testing and assistance conception will occur.
Determining Male Fertility
In order for a man to be fertile, his testicles must produce enough healthy sperm and he must also possess the ability to ejaculate the sperm effectively into the woman's vagina. Testing for male fertility includes a general examination of the genitals and an accurate reporting of medical history, illnesses, disabilities, medications and sexual habits.
The most important part of the process is the semen test which will be evaluated by laboratory analysis to determine the number of sperm, any abnormalities, the shape and motility and any other things the doctor deems necessary. A blood test to assess the level of testosterone and other male hormones is often done as well. Sometimes an ultrasound is recommended in order for the doctor to assess whether there is retrograde ejaculation or duct obstruction.
All of these medical tests take a toll on a man, to be sure. While there is great support and success in the conventional medical arena for fertility testing and treatment, there are also other ways for a man to boost his semen volume without medications.
Fertility supplements Can Help
Fertility supplements can help increase sperm count and motility; however, because these products are natural, they can take several months to build up within the system to be effective. Arginine is found in both food sources such as turkey, chicken and other meats. Non-food-source L-arginine is created through a process which separates it from all other proteins. Both bound and free Arginine is found in abundance in human male sperm and it has been found to stimulate sperm motility.
Carnitine is a naturally occurring amino acid which is concentrated in sperm and is required for normal sperm function. CoQ10 helps to increase semen volume and motility and Ginseng, the forked root of Asia, has been used in traditional Chinese medicine for centuries to increase semen volume and male fertility.
Omega fatty acids are useful for many things, however omega-6 fatty acids found in evening primrose and starflower oils are a recommended male fertility supplement. There are very high levels of zinc and essential fatty acids in pumpkin seeds which also help with male fertility. Selenium is a trace element needed in the human diet. Found in fish, meat, whole grains and dairy products, this element is helpful as a treatment for male infertility.
It is important to keep up the levels of zinc in the body as it helps to increase semen volume and maintain adequate testosterone levels which, in turn, keep sperm healthy.
By ensuring the daily diet is enriched with these natural elements, a man may be able to address infertilitywithout drugs.
