Why do some women have anovulation? What is the cause and is it treatable?

mitch123 - July 4th, 2010 3:33 AM

the most common cause is hormonal imbalance. Medication is usually given. Most patients are also adviced to eat a healthy and balanced diet, reduce stress and in some cases have surgery (for tumors).

It's a menstrual cycle in which the ovaries fail to release an oocyte. Chronic anovulation is a common cause of infertility.

I think this is the equivalent of Azoospermia in males, ie the absence of sperm. In this case, it is the absence of a mature egg. Thankfully it can be teated as mitch23 said!

Diet plays an important thing in our lives. I only realized this when I started researching ways of getting pregnant at my age (36). In this forum lots of emphasis is place on a balanced an healthy diet. I never realized that skipping and eating unhealthy meals could cause you not to ovulate, so thanks for the info!

I used to miss my periods when I was in my teens. Luckily it normalized itself when I got to college. Although my obstetrician says that this sort of problem is normal during teenage years, I am now worried that maybe this is why I have a hard time getting pregnant now?

how about age, can this be a factor for anovulation?

candyKane - September 11th, 2010 2:19 AM

yes... most specifically menopause.

During our 50's there will be no more mature follicles that release good eggs. This will cause women to not ovulate anymore and go through the menopause phase.
