Hi to everybody who is planning!

I've read about ovaries scanning by ultrasound. They check the Follicular diameter, it's development and can say very precisely when ovulation to take place. Sounds good. Did anyone try that? Where can you do it in the UK?

Wont it be inconvenient? You have to go to a clinic...

Yes, you will need to go to clinic, but it is worth it!

So it is only available in the UK? Is this experimental?

Cloe88, I'm originally from Russia, but now live in the UK. In Russia people who planning to start a family and specially the ones who have problems with conceiving do this procedure on regular basis. You go to scan ovaries and it allows to say for sure when Ovulation will happen or if it already did. It also helps to do your Basal Temperature and build the graphic, it helps you to know probably (or even precisely if cycles are regular) when you have Ovulation, so you don't have to go every day of your cycle to do the ultrasound test, just the most possible days.

The only problem I have is I don't know how can it be done here in the UK, on what basis. It takes ages here to get an appointment with GP, who have no idea anyway (maybe I happened to get a bad one, don't know).

I'm all for this if it is more accurate in pinpointing ovulation. due to age on my part, I dont really have much time. So the more precise the better it is for me.

I agree with Mikoto. If it is more accurate than an ovulation kit or calculator, then it is worth a shot. However it can be inconvenient as I would imagine you would need repeated visits to the Clinic in order to confirm or negate ovulation.

I found some more info about it:

"FOLLICULOMETRY [ULTRASOUND]

Ultrasound Folliculometry is a serial Transvaginal ultrasound scan test carried out to monitor follicular growth .Ovulation/Follicular growth can be best monitored by ultrasound folliculometry, providing 0–60% effectiveness.
Folliculometry is one of the most accurate method for determining ovulation.
Ovulation scans allow the doctor to determine accurately when the egg matures; and when you ovulate. This is often the basic procedure for most infertility treatment since the treatment revolves around the wife's ovulation. Daily scans are done to visualize the growing follicle, which looks like a black bubble on the screen. Most women can see the follicle clearly for themselves - and know by the scans when the egg has ruptured. Other useful information which can be determined by these scans is the thickness of the uterine lining - the endometrium. The ripening follicle produces increasing quantities of estrogen, which cause the endometrium to thicken. The doctor can get a good idea of how much estrogen you are producing (and thus the quality of the egg) based on the thickness and brightness of the endometrium on the ultrasound scan.
Ultrasound folliculometry is started from day 6 – 8 counting from the first day of menstruation. Folliculometry is performed every 2 or 3 days in the initial stages and can be done daily from the day 12, till after the follicle ruptures [post ovulation]. So in a routine ultrasound folliculometry the lady could be scanned transvaginally for between 3 to 6 sessions."

sounds good but sounds inconvenient and expensive as you need to go to the hospital... I dunno with you but an ultrasound here in my state costs around $50-80 per reading. Most insurance policies cover an ultrasound but if you need one per month as part of your treatment I dont think the company is gonna pay for the whole deal.

otherwise, good post.
