Is there a standard as to how to determine the first day of menstrual cycle?

first day is the first bleed. it does not matter if it is brownish. once you see brown spots on your panties then this is the first day.

Danica's right. No matter how little "blood" there is, the moment you see some is the first day of your period.

For normal female adolescents, the start of the menstrual cycle is the day when blood, mucus, and other uterine tissues are discharged through the vagina.During day 1 of menstrual flow, estrogen and progesterone have low concentrations. This condition triggers a series of reactions.

I count the first day as the day wherein there's blood on my panties. No matter how tiny it is.
