what is luteal phase defect and what causes it?

ShyGirl - April 16th, 2011 2:20 AM

Luteal phase refers to the time between ovulation and the first day of the menstrual cycle. Normal luteal phase is 14-17 days long. If it is shorter than 10 days then it is considered as Luteal Phase Defect or LPD.

"The three main causes of luteal phase defect include poor follicle production, premature demise of the corpus luteum, and failure of the uterine lining to respond to normal levels of progesterone"

So this means that women with short periods probably have short luteal phase too. Do you think that this is caused by hormonal imbalance? Sometimes my period is 28 days. Sometimes it is 30-32.

Since there is a low progesterone level then it could be a hormonal imbalance.

I noticed that if I am stressed then my period comes early. Does this happen to you too?
