How is it that obese women find it more difficult to conceive?

Ronnie - May 9th, 2010 12:36 PM

Obese women will have low levels of progesterone and estrogen making it harder for them to conceive.

I agree with Ronnie. I used to be overweight and I had irregular periods due to the imbalance in hormones. So being obese can make it difficult to conceive.

Wow, really I did not know this. What about slightly overweight but not yet classified as obese? Is it the same?

I have read studies of this and this is true. I read that women who are obese are find it 4x harder to conceive compared to women with normal weight.

Yes, a woman needs to be conscious enough with her body weight not just for health and fitness reason but most of all to enhance her fertility if she's planning to get pregnant.

Obesity is a known risk factor for ovulation problems and it also contributes to infertility in women who ovulate normally.

It is not clear how obesity affects women who ovulate normally. And it is increasingly clear that the role of obesity in reproduction is more complex that we all once thought.
