how can sicle cell anemia interfere with a woman's fertility?

tonette - October 26th, 2010 2:42 AM

Sickle cell anemia is a very dangerous disorder in which the body makes a sickle shape red blood cells. I think it can interfere with a woman's fertility in the sense that this can cause serious infections and even damage the organ.

This is something new to me and I want more info about this.

Orion_99 - October 26th, 2010 3:38 AM

This is when your red blood cells change shape. When this happens they are not able to absorb and carry oxygen efficiently to the cells. This can cause a woman or man to be weak and have a hard time getting pregnant.

joanne - October 27th, 2010 10:36 AM

I don't think there's a cure for it.Better ask the doctors for sure info about it's treatment, you see they know best.

for sickle cell anemia, you need to build up stamina and also immune system. its not impossible to get pregnant with it, its just harder.

Women who have sickle anemia needs to be patient in dealing with this disorder, for her to get pregnant.

I think the only way to cure sickle cell anemia is for the person to have bone marrow or stem cell transplants. but even with that you need a lifetime of medication.

SuperMom - October 31st, 2010 1:52 AM

sickle cell anemia can delay the onset of puberty in kids. therefore they are at risk of developing infertility problems

PoshMama - October 31st, 2010 3:26 PM

just an FYI. In men sickle cell anemia can cause ED.

G.races - November 1st, 2010 10:59 PM

So this single cell anemia is the sole cause for both men and women's inability to give birth in one way or another. Funny how a tiny, little bugger can do so much wreck in one's life, eh?

forget fertility, this can shorten a person's lifespan once you have it. if a pregnant woman gets this, she can get spontaneous abortion
