What is surgical abortion and how effective is surgical abortion?

jen - March 19th, 2011 2:59 PM

Surgical abortion is a procedure done by a doctor to remove the lining of the womb. Manual vacuum aspiration (MVA), and dilatation and evacuation (D&E) are the two common procedures in this kind of abortion. They both use suction to empty the womb. MVA uses a handheld tool. D&E is done with a suction machine and tools.

this is nearly 100% effective. Most women this may feel like strong menstrual cramps. however, women are usually given medicine to help with the pain and told to rest when they get home. Acetaminophen or ibuprofen can also help. Bleeding may continue off and on for a few weeks. But surgical abortion doesn't reduce the woman's ability to get pregnant.
